IRS Direct Pay allows you to securely make a federal tax payment directly from your bank account — without any processing fees.

You will need:

• Your bank routing number and account number
   
• Your most recently filed tax return (2024 or 2023, depending on what the IRS requests)

1. Go to the IRS Direct Pay website: https://www.irs.gov/payments/direct-pay
    
2. Click Make a Payment
    
3. Select Reason for Payment
   Choose: Balance Due
    
4. Select Apply Payment To
   Choose: Income Tax – Form 1040
    
5. Select Tax Period for Payment
   Choose the correct tax year (example: 2025)
    
6. Enter your payment amount, then click Continue
    
7. Verify your identity using information from your most recently filed tax return
    
8. Enter your bank account information
    
9. Review your information and click Submit Payment
    
10. Save or print your confirmation page for your records
